Best Little Whorehouse in Texas
Auditions: June 2 – 3
Performance: Aug 1 – 11
Miss Mona runs the Chicken Ranch, a brothel with a long history in a small Texas town. The locals have a good relationship with the institution, and Mona is respected in the community. The sheriff, Ed Earl Dodd, also looks out for the Chicken Ranch due to his past with Miss Mona. However, when pious reporter Melvin Thorpe exposes the brothel, outside interests want it shut down, putting the governor in a tough spot.
The mission of Temple Civic Theatre is to produce theatre of the highest caliber, to enlist regional talent through open auditions, to educate youth and adults in all aspects of theatre, and to provide opportunities for and encourage participation by volunteers, thus enriching the artistic and cultural base of the communities of Central Texas.
As we look towards the 2018-19 Season, we want to thank everyone that has supported our theatre over the years. From volunteers to season ticket holders, to the communities of central Texas, we exist because of you and the value you place on the cultural and artistic elements of live theatre. If this is your first time to visit our website – we invite you to swing by for a tour. The Board of Governors, office manager Martha Satterwhite, and a small army of volunteers have given the theatre a bit of a facelift.
Our 2018-19 Season truly features something for every theatre lover and opens with the comedy genius of Mel Brooks and his adaptation of the wildly popular, Young Frankenstein. Our play reading committee worked hard to identify works that are joyful and uplifting but also include selections relevant to the challenges of our world. We are so proud of the unique experience our thrust stage provides and the comfort our inviting space brings to our audiences. We hope you will consider joining us as a member for the coming season and again, welcome you to the Temple Civic Theatre.
